FAQs
Signature Surfaces NW
Where does your stone come from?
The majority of our stone is sourced directly from quarries in Brazil. This direct importation allows us to provide our customers with a unique selection at competitive prices.Do you work with other suppliers?
Yes, we do. If you don't find what you're looking for in our on-site inventory, we encourage you to explore options from all suppliers in Portland. We have established relationships with these suppliers and receive weekly deliveries. What is the difference between 2cm and 3cm?
The main difference is thickness: 2cm stone is 0.75 inches thick, while 3cm stone is 1.25 inches thick. At Signature Surfaces NW, we primarily use 3cm stone for residential installations. This choice results in countertops cut from fewer pieces, reducing the need for multiple sections to be glued together. What is the difference between granite and quartz?
Granite is a natural stone quarried from the earth, while quartz is manufactured using natural components and petroleum-based products. Both materials have comparable price ranges. Granite typically comes in larger pieces, allowing for fewer seams. Quartz is more susceptible to scratches and heat damage. Both materials require sealing, with natural stone being more porous than quartz. How long will I be without my countertops?
For existing cabinet installations, we can usually complete the removal of old countertops and installation of new ones in a single day. If you're replacing cabinets as well, the process typically takes 2-3 weeks from template to installation. Can I lay out my templates?
Absolutely. We encourage all our customers to participate in the layout and cutting process of their stone. How many seams will I have?
We aim to minimize seams, primarily limited by material size. Typically, if seams are necessary, there will be one through the sink area and another behind the stove. Will the same person who templates also install?
Yes, our installer Oscar and his crew have been handling both templating and installation for nearly a decade, ensuring consistency throughout the process.Do you subcontract out any of the work?
No, we perform all tile and stone work in-house. For services outside our expertise, such as plumbing or electrical work, we're happy to provide referrals to trusted tradesmen. What if I get a stain or a chip?
Please contact us immediately if you encounter any issues such as stains or chips. We're committed to providing the best possible care and assistance whenever you need it.
